Loading data

From Freebase

Jump to: navigation, search

If you have a large database, spreadsheet or dataset to contribute, and providing the data has the correct license for uploading to freebase, then we'd love to see that data in Freebase. There are a number of tools for helping you get that data into freebase.

Data loading consists of the activities of sourcing the data, Data parsing, mapping the data to freebase schemas, uploading, Reconciliation and finally a review. We recommend uploading to the Sandbox in the first instance, until you are confident the data has been uploaded correctly, before uploading it to the production graph.

Data Loading Tools

  • Add to table view - When adding just a few entries, this is a quick and easy manual method, one at a time.
  • Import list - A number of places in the Freebase.com web client allow you to import a list of entries (up to, say, 50) as performance diminishes with the length of the list. This works well for a small to medium number of entries which have values that are tagged as Disambiguators in the schema.
  • Freebase Loader (aka spreadsheet loader)
  • Freebase API (ie mqlwrite) - Writing data directly using MQL and the Freebase API provides the most control, but is the most work and requires the ability to write software programs
  • FreeQ (aka triple loader): currently not available to non-Metaweb staff.
