The Freebase platform refers to the set of tools and services offered by Freebase.

Unique identifiers

At the core of Freebase is a system of identifiers for Topics. Freebase IDs help you identify whether you're talking about Henry Ford the founder of the motor company or Henry Ford the football player.

Structured data

Freebase's Schema and query language allow you to fetch structured information about any of our topics. For instance, you can find the size of a continent, the release date of a movie, or a person's date of birth. This data can then be embedded in your website, or you can build all kinds of applications around it.

Developer tools

Freebase offers a range of developer tools:

  • The Query editor helps you develop Freebase queries using MQL
  • Acre is a hosted app development platform where you can create and share open source web applications built on Freebase
  • Our REST API provides greater flexibility for people who want to build and host their own applications
  • Our Data dumps are available for anyone who wants to process or analyse Freebase data en masse
  • We also provide RDF, which makes us part of the Linked Open Data world and helps you build Semantic Web applications
