Beta
From Freebase
Beta is a designation Metaweb gives to features/products which are fairly well developed but not yet fully supported.
Beta software has the following attributes:
- Maturity -- the shape of the product is fairly well understood and set in place
- Commitment to release -- Metaweb is committed to releasing the product (i.e. non-beta release)
- Stability is not guaranteed, but an attempt is made to keep the product fairly stable and to notify users/developers if there is downtime
- Backward compatibility is not guaranteed, but an attempt is made to provide advance warning of changes that may break apps
- Documentation exists, though it may not be fully polished or complete
- Support is provided on public mailing lists, through the discussion forums on Freebase.com, etc. There is wider support involvement from Metaweb staff and the community at large.
- There will be an official announcement of the Beta release
Beta software should be labelled as such.
- If the product has a UI, it should include an "Beta" badge linking here
- The documentation (on this wiki or elsewhere) should mention beta status and link here
